Real Brides: Alison
John and I met in 2013 at a karaoke bar in Somerville, MA called the Rosebud. It was Feb. 15th, and it was "Unvalentine" karaoke night, so you were allowed to sing anything except a love song. I was singing "Goodbye Earl" by the Dixie Chicks when John walked into the bar. We went out on our first date about a week later, and then went skiing together the following weekend (with my dad and my sister). Our life has been a series of ski weekends and other adventure now in Colorado, and we got engaged on the mountain at Breckenridge in February of 2018.
It was only my second day of looking at dresses, at Casa Bianca Bridal in Littleton, CO, and I saw my dress while I was looking on the racks but for whatever reason passed it up, I think because it was hard to imagine it on me in the sample size. After trying on a few dresses that my friends and I had picked out, Sheri the store owner brought a few dresses too and mine was one of them. When I came out in it and showed it to my friends, I just couldn't help thinking that I wouldn't find "anything that is more ME." It just felt very much my style, in an indescribable way, and my friend Cara who had just bought her own wedding dress weeks before, started crying. She said, "I didn't even cry when I tried on my dress..."
Sheri had told me, "Not everyone cries when they put on their dress, but when you know, you will know." I doubted that I would really know, until I had my dress on and I knew it was perfect for me!
