Real Brides: Kayla
My fiancé and I had been together for 5 years when he asked me to marry him. It was such an amazing and personal proposal. After about a year of being engaged, I really wanted to start getting our wedding planned. Since I was going back to school when we got engaged, we decided to wait. I figured we could start planning while I was in school, so we could get married right when I was finished. We set a date for July 30, 2016 at a venue we fell in love with. It was on a bluff in Fort Bragg, CA and it included a private residence for us to stay at. The ocean holds a special place in my husbands heart and I knew it would be the perfect backdrop for our day. The venue is called Holly's Ocean Meadow.
We decided not to have a wedding party so I didn't have any bridesmaids to go dress shopping with me. The first time I went I took my mom, one of my sisters and my niece with me but nothing stood out to me. I kept looking online and seeing different styles and variations of the ones I liked. I went again with a friend just for the heck of it and surprisingly almost got a dress then but knew deep down it wasn't the one and I couldn't do it without my mom there. So I set up a Saturday for dress shopping. Two appointments at two shops with just my mom and I. We went to the first appointment and I picked out at least 8 dresses! I tried on the first one and couldn't believe it. I totally loved it! The second I walked out to show my mom she started crying (which i knew was a good sign) so of course I start crying and that's when I knew I'd found it. But for the fun of it I tried on the rest but knew that I wanted that first one I tried on. It had the back details I wanted and the lace was lightweight. The warm color of the silk underneath the lace was perfect for my outdoor wedding and it was also super comfortable!
I was so happy with my dress and still love it! I just wish I had another reason to wear it!
